The prosecution maintains the acts constitute first-degree murder or manslaughter. Courtroom drama escalated after 18 hours of deliberation when the foreperson informed the judge that one holdout juror failed to understand the law and legal instructions. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington expressed strong frustration over the situation, objecting to the court's rulings and requesting the removal of the juror who refused to follow instructions regarding reasonable doubt. The judge denied the motion to remove the juror, instructing the panel to continue deliberating before sending them home for the night.
