Hurricane season begins in the U.S.

Hurricane season is officially here. Tropical storm Alberto formed Wednesday morning in the Gulf of Mexico. It's the first named storm of what is expected to be a very busy hurricane season. According to the National Hurricane Center, the storm has sustained winds of 40 mph. It's expected to bring heavy rain and coastal flooding to the Texas Gulf Coast. The center of the storm is not expected to make landfall in the U.S.

1 dead, hundreds of homes burned in NM wildfire

A raging wildfire continues to spread in New Mexico after killing at least one person and forcing thousands of others to flee. More than 500 homes and buildings have already burned and residents are still scrambling to leave the area west of Roswell. A top-level fire management team is expected to take over the fight as winds will continue to challenge crews. A state of emergency is in effect as of June 19.
