Laken Riley Act: House to vote on immigration bill

The U.S. House is expected to vote on a new immigration bill called the "Laken Riley Act," in honor of the Georgia college student who was allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant. The legislation would require customs and immigration enforcement to issue a detainer for illegal immigrants who are charged or cited with local theft or burglary. It would also allow states to sue the federal government if an immigration-related action harms the state or its citizens. The suspect in Riley's murder was previously arrested in New York, but he was released before ICE could detain him.
