Dogs of owners charged with animal cruelty finding homes

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - The 20 dogs surrendered in an animal cruelty case are finding homes through the Yavapai Humane Society.

The Prescott Daily Courier reports animal control officers charged Jeanette Stinson and Ronald Godfrey with multiple crimes including animal cruelty and failure to license the 25 dogs at their Paulden property.

Stinson signed a settlement May 12 and surrendered the 25 dogs. Godfrey's charges are on hold after an expert determined he was not competent to stand trial.

County officials say the dogs were violent, and residents expressed safety concerns.

Humane Society Director Ed Boks says the 20 dogs were all under socialized, but 10 have been adopted so far. Two are ready to go to new homes, and the final eight are working with staff behaviorists.

The Phoenix Human Society took in five of the dogs.
