Flagstaff police to get additional body cameras

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Flagstaff has approved the purchase of additional body cameras for the police department to outfit all officers and supervisors.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports that the City Council on Tuesday approved the purchase of an additional 34 Avon Flex body cameras.

The special services supervisor for the department, Jennifer Brown, says the cameras will be assigned to uniformed supervisors and specialty assignment officers, such as the SWAT forces.

The city will spend close to $78,000 for the cameras, accessories and online storage for the video.

The department purchased 50 cameras in July 2014 and outfitted patrol officers in October.

Police departments across the country have chosen to outfit officers with body cameras after recent scrutiny has increased over police tactics.
