A tragic accident claimed the life of a tree trimmer who died inside the woodchipper while working this morning in Chandler.
Police have not released the identity of the victim as they are still contacting next of kin.
SkyFox video captured the scene near Freeway Chevrolet in Chandler. A woodchipper was parked behind a truck used by the "Trim A Tree" service.
Chandler Police and Fire responded after a worker died around 10:15 Thursday morning.
"It appears to be just a tragic accident working with a wood chipper contractor using a standard pull-behind wood chipper," said Keith Welch with Chandler Fire.
Somehow the man fell in head first. Someone called 911, but there was no surviving this accident, paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
"Horrible, absolutely horrible for everyone, coworkers, employees of Freeway Chevrolet, public safety personnel, it is obviously a gruesome death, very tragic," said Seth Tyler with Chandler Police.
By all accounts this was a tragic accident, nonetheless Chandler Police responded to make sure there was no foul play involved.
"It is one of those things, we do think this is a tragic accident but they have to do due diligence to confirm that," said Welch.
But by all accounts just a terrible accident and a reminder of the power and the danger of wood chipping machines. State OSHA officials are also investigating the accident.
