Woman accused of arson in apartment complex fire

A woman who lives in a Mesa apartment complex where she and others were evacuated by police because of a fire has been arrested and accused of arson and endangerment.

Police say 38-year-old Collette Michelle Butler's apartment was on fire Thursday evening when officers responded to a 911 call during which Butler said she wanted to kill herself.

Police say the fire displaced 10 families from their apartments.

Police also say multiple officers who helped evacuate people from the complex were treated for smoke inhalation but that there were no serious injuries.

The city Fire and Medical Department said police officers' evacuation of residents helped avoid serious injuries or deaths.

Butler was arrested Friday. It's not immediately known whether Butler has an attorney who could comment on the allegations.
