Two people have been arrested after they were reportedly fighting during a youth sports event on the campus of Willow Canyon High School in Surprise.

A driver and a child were killed in a crash near Goldfield Road and Old West Highway after their vehicle collided with a utility pole.

Joshua Runkles was arrested on Sept. 19 after the Department of Public Safety said he gained access to the inside of the stadium while armed without proper approval. Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet shared a statement on Sept. 20, that read in part, "This individual was doing advance security for a known guest planning to attend the memorial service tomorrow. We do not believe this person was attempting anything nefarious,- however the advance was not done in proper coordination with the TPUSA security team or U.S. Secret Service."

A Valley man, Cleophus Cooksey Jr., is accused of murdering eight people, including his mother and stepfather in 2017. The five-month trial is now in the hands of the jury, and if convicted, Cooksey could face the death penalty.
