Speaker Johnson backtracks on Grijalva's swearing-in

House Speaker Mike Johnson appears to have contradicted his own commitment regarding the swearing-in of newly-elected Arizona Rep. Adelita Grijalva, stating the ceremony will not take place until the ongoing government shutdown is resolved.

Government shutdown impact on national parks

Visitors at Saguro National Park near Tucson saw a closed off gate and thought the park was closed until they saw other people parking on the side of the road and walking right in. Ahead of the government shutdown, the National Park Service said it would furlough more than 9,000 employees, cutting more than half the staff.
