Arizona State University library damaged by flooding

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - A library on Arizona State University's Tempe campus is closed due to water damage from a sprinkler system malfunction.

University administrator Bruce Jensen says the Daniel E. Noble Science and Engineering Library's sprinkler system activated at about 5 a.m. Friday and remained on for about an hour.

Jensen says damage is concentrated in the three-story building's atrium but that other areas also are affected.

However, Jensen says it appears that most of the damage is at floor level so there's minimal damage to the library's collection.

Jensen says cause of the malfunction is under investigation and that it's not yet known how long the library will remain closed.

The library houses collections for numerous science and engineer programs and has hundreds of thousands of books, subscriptions, maps and aerial photographs.
