Couple's representative seeks firing of Phoenix officers

PHOENIX (AP/FOX10) - A representative of the black couple who police aimed guns and hurled obscenities at during a videotaped encounter has asked the Phoenix City Council to fire the officers involved.

The couple also previously asked for officers' termination and filed a $10 million claim against the city. Their representative's claim formalizing the request is included in materials for Wednesday's council meeting.

City officials note in the materials that under the law they cannot fire the officers without due process.

The council moved at a previous meeting Tuesday to ease distrust of the police amid the outcry in what is the nation's fifth largest city.

The council agreed to look into software that can identify officers with problems and voted to consider a survey of community attitudes toward the police department.
