Glendale man accused of trying to strangle mother, stab self

PHOENIX (AP) - A Glendale man is accused of trying to strangle his mother to prevent her from suffering the violent death he saw in visions.

Authorities say 23-year-old Isaac William Benson allegedly tried to strangle his mother early Saturday as she walked out of the bathroom in their apartment.

Court documents show Benson allegedly placed his hands around his mother's throat and told her he was sorry but he had to kill her.

The victim fell to the floor and passed out, but survived.

Glendale police say Benson stabbed himself in the chest with a knife and was treated at a hospital.

Benson is being held without bail on suspicion of attempted murder, aggravated assault and domestic violence.

He did not have an attorney at his initial court appearance Monday.
