Mom who left kid outside shopping center will not face charges

A valley woman accused of leaving her baby in a shopping cart at a valley shopping center will not face charges.

The decision came from the Gilbert Interim Town Prosecutor Ted Bullock Monday afternoon.

The statement said, "After a careful review of the facts of this case and the relevant statutes and case law, the Gilbert Prosecutor's Office will not be filing any charges arising from the August 24th incident involving Cherish Peterson and her infant child."

Cherish Peterson, who left her 2 month old son in a shopping cart outside a grocery store Monday. She returned frantically 40 minutes later, but authorities had already been called.

She says in the rush in and out of the store with two other small children she simply forgot.
