OLMOST THE WEEKEND: Scottsdale Canal Convergence

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) -- If you're an art lover or just looking for something fun to do, the Scottsdale Canal Convergence is an event you'll want to attend.

The annual series will feature 10 art installations suspended above and placed throughout the waterfront, pProviding an immersive art experience.

Some of the installations include Re-Cyclone, a 20-foot tall, rotating torando-looking sculpture made from 5,000 plastic bottles. Another is called Floatus, which are sculptures that will float on surface of water.

One of the popular installations was created by a duo from Boston, a 600 ft long hand-crocheted lace ribbon that is inspired by the beauty of Arizona.

"We wanted to capture the natural force that created the beautiful land here," said artist Jin Choi.

It took 18 months to create the art piece, with the help of hundreds of volunteers.

There will be other artists performing and hosting workshops. The event, which runs through November 18, is free, and there is a launch party at 5:00 p.m. Thursday.
