Suspicious church fire in Buckeye

A fire that broke out an old church in Buckeye is being called suspicious.

Flames sparked at the abandoned church near Palo Verde Road in Pima on Saturday at 5pm. By the time firefighters arrived, that fire had spread to most of the building. 30 firefighters worked to put out those flames but ran into several difficulties while battling the fire. They quickly ran through the only available water in the storage tanks. There are no regularly available hydrants in this area.

Fire crews had to rely on water tankers to extinguish the fire. There was not any power to the building at the time the fire sparked, and that is part of the reason why fire crews are calling this suspicious. Luckily, no one was injured battling the blaze.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is now investigating this case.
