William Shatner, known for Star Trek's Captain James Kirk, visits fans at Phoenix Comic Fest

Thousands of people have been packing into Downtown Phoenix for 2018's Phoenix Comic Fest, and on Friday, one of the big stars at the event was William Shatner, perhaps best known for some as the original Captain James T. Kirk in the Star Trek series.

For the super fans, Friday was a dream come true.

"It was like meeting the legend, the myth you know," said one fan.

"To meet him, even if it was just a few seconds, is neat," said another fan. "It's a brush with history and with a legend."

One fan was even brought to tears after meeting Shatner. Desirae Salas says she has a strong connection to the series.

"I have all the original movies. I'm the only trekkie in my family too, so I connect with it even more because I don't have anybody else to talk to it about," said Salas "I just like keep it in, and just seeing him, everything just came out."

It was also a special moment for Mike Potts.

Potts: it's sorta neat to be in the same space with the guy and to have it sign it to me you know it's nice especially since star trek has been meaningful my whole life because I would watch it with my dad...Re runs back in the 80's when I was growing up

Shatner also sat down with FOX 10's Stephanie Olmo.

"There are, like, 100,000 people coming to the event and they are all dressed up and they are all having fun," said Shatner, who went on to say he enjoyed to see how the comic events have grown over the years.

"It's a family thing, more then anything else," said Shatner. "A lot of families come down with make up on, with wardrobe and costume, and they are having a good time."
