After weeks of COVID-19 numbers trending down in Arizona, more Valley schools are reopening for in-person learning. Mesa is one of those districts and Superintendent Dr. Andi Fourlis spoke to FOX 10's Steve Nielsen about the district's return to in-person learning.

About 60% of students in the East Valley school district have chosen to return to a modified form of in-person learning, which starts on September 14.

Ruling barring death penalty against immigrant reversed

Apolinar Altamirano is accused of fatally shooting Grant Ronnebeck, a 21-year-old clerk at a Mesa convenience store, after Ronnebeck insisted that he pay for a pack of cigarettes. Authorities say Altamirano stepped over Ronnebeck to get several packs of cigarettes before leaving the store.
