Brewer says Supreme Decision is a victory for Americans

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has been a vocal critic of President Obama's immigration and border policies. She took a hard line position on immigration throughout her time as Governor.

Brewer says it's not just a win for Arizona, but for every state. She says the Supreme Court stopping this reform shows President Obama cannot write, or re-write the law.

"Today the people of Arizona have won, the people of America have won because it says that Congress writes the laws, and the President enforces them," said Jan Brewer.

The Supreme Court was deadlocked on the vote over a case centered on the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents. DAPA would have spared 5 million undocumented immigrants from being deported.

Immediately after President Obama announced the plan in 2014, Texas and 25 states including Arizona challenged the reform. Gov. Brewer was in favor of the lawsuit.

"I certainly believe that Congress makes the laws, and the federal government has the responsibility to enforce those laws. The President does not have the right or the ability," she said.

Brewer says this ruling is a win for the country, and those who immigrated here the legal way.

"Regards to what he's done is illegal; he cannot do that. There's a separation of powers, issues, and states rights," said Brewer.

The ruling blocks Obama's plan through the end of his administration.
