Drug-free Basil Eleby moves into new apartment
EAST POINT, Ga. - He went from arson suspect to getting his own apartment. Basil Eleby said he's changing his life.
Eleby found himself in the middle of a national story last year when a portion of the Interstate 85 overpass collapsed and caught fire.
Police charged the drug addict with arson, but Eleby always maintained did not set the fire.
Wednesday, the 41-year-old moved into his own apartment in East Point.
Eleby said he has been clean for eight and a half months and cannot envision ever going back to drugs and alcohol.
A judge agreed to transfer Eleby's charge to Accountability Court, where the felony will be dropped if he successfully completes an 18-month diversion program.
