Jerice Hunter trial: Video of first police interview released

Jerice Hunter was back in court Monday. She's accused of killing her 5-year-old daughter Jhessye Shockley and dumping her body in a trash bin.

Police questioned Hunter nine hours after the child was reported missing. She's not very emotional. She didn't cry much when talking about her daughter. She also doesn't tell officers that Jhessye's father is in prison.

"Jhessye is 5, she's really outgoing, I mean she can be so silly sometimes and just make you crack up. I worry about her too because she does not have a problem approaching strangers. She does not have a problem talking to strangers. If a stranger approaches her and we're on the bus or at the store, she'll strike up a conversation.. that's what worries me about Jhessye," said Hunter.

"We look at everything.. custody battles, people that are mad, so I got to ask about dad," said the officer.

"Her dad is not my other kids' dad and I don't know where he is.. he's in California, but I don't know his location," said Hunter.

"What's his name?" asked the officer.

"Ed Shockley," replied Hunter.

"And you don't know where he is?" asked the officer.

"I don't know exactly where he is.. no," replied Hunter.

Prosecutors say Hunter knew Jhessye's dad was in prison. He's been in prison since 2006, convicted of molesting a child.

Hunter also didn't tell police that she herself was convicted and spent time in prison for child abuse.

Hunter's second police interview will be played for the jury on March 31st. During that interview, detectives ask her about those false statements.
