Kingman fireworks show canceled following lawsuit

KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) - Residents of the Kingman area won't be seeing fireworks this Independence Day after a lawsuit and logistics issues canceled the show.

The Kingman Daily Miner reports the assistant fire chief told city councilors Thursday that the show wouldn't be happening this year.

The Mohave County Fairgrounds board rejected the idea, he said, and no other locations are available.

The logistic troubles follow a $12 million personal injury lawsuit filed by assistant pyrotechnician Jeremy Lee and his parents.

Lee was permanently injured in a fireworks accident while working on the 2013 show. He sued a New York-based fireworks importer, the fair board, the city of Kingman and a nonprofit that funded the show.

The city attorney doesn't think the city, fair board or nonprofit are likely to be found culpable.
