Man dies while swimming in the Salt River over the weekend

MESA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A man died while swimming in the Salt River on Sunday night.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says the body of 30-year-old Lafonzo Yazzie was pulled from the water after he was swimming across the river near Blue Ridge Point. Deputies say Yazzie became distressed and went under water.

At this point, investigators say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.
