Police: Armed suspect shot, killed by officers
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Police say a man armed with a hunting knife was shot and killed after he charged at officers.
Phoenix police say 25-year-old Dylan Papa was shot and killed at an apartment complex near 37th Street and Earll Drive on Tuesday night after he allegedly attacked a man inside an apartment.
Investigators say the incident began at 4 p.m. when officers responded to the apartments after a woman reported that her son was armed with a large sword and was arguing with her. When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect was gone, but officers learned he had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest.
Shortly before 10 p.m., the woman called police again to report that her son had returned and was armed with a knife. When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect came outside and had a large hunting knife tethered to his hand.
Police deployed stun rounds in an attempt to stop him, but when he kept charging, officers shot him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
