Sheriff's Office: 3 hikers struck by lightning, 1 dead

Emergency crews say one person has died and two others are injured after the group was struck by lightning in Northern Arizona.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office got a call from hikers on Humphreys Peak saying they were struck by lightning.

Due to the extreme weather in the area emergency crews had to wait to attempt a rescue.

When they arrived at the group they found one hiker dead and began treating the other two patients.

The dead hiker is only identified as a 17-year-old male, the two injured victims at 17 and 18. All are from the Tempe area.

The injured hikers have been taken to Flagstaff Medical Center where they are being treated.
