PHOENIX (AP) -- Phoenix police are investigating a traffic death in which a woman was killed in what may have been a hit-and-run accident.

Police say the woman's dead body was found on a street early Friday morning in east-central Phoenix and that a damaged car was located several blocks away.

According to police, the woman's body was found in the road at North 40th Street and East McDowell Road while a car with front-end damage was found about four blocks away near North 44th Street and East Willetta Street.

Sgt. Vince Lewis says investigators are trying to determine whether the car figured in the woman's death.
