Monsoon 2018: Rainy weather causes flooding across the Valley

PHOENIX -- From Flagstaff to Casa Grande, it was an overall gloomy Wednesday. Stubborn clouds and ongoing rain throughout the day was an indication that the monsoon is not over yet.

In downtown Phoenix, rain fell steadily through the afternoon hours.

In Casa Grande, heavy rain quickly flooded some neighborhoods. Much of the wet weather from this summer has skipped over Casa Grande due to the weather pattern, so the rain came in as a pleasant surprise.

Meteorologist Larry Hopper from the National Weather Service in Phoenix says this monsoon season goes down in the books.

"This year was actually through August 23rd, was the second busiest monsoon season since the 1980s based on lightning data. It's kind of trailed off the last four weeks or so," Hopper said.
