Voter approved Phoenix transportation tax goes into effect

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Starting January 1, the sales tax in Phoenix is increasing.

Voters approved the tax increase in August.

The money will be used to fund transportation projects, such as extending the light rail and improving bike paths.

The tax will cost an extra $0.30 on every $100 spent and expires in 2050.
