Man wanted for allegedly trying to sexually assault 13-year-old girl in an open field

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- Officials with Phoenix Police say they are looking for a man accused of trying to sexually assault a 13-year-old girl in an open field.

According to a statement, the incident took place Monday morning, on the 700 block of E. Vineyard Road in Phoenix. The 13-year-old was walking with her eight-year-old brother in the area when they were confronted by the suspect. The suspect then asked for assistance in locating someone in the neighborhood, and eventually was able to separate the victim from her brother. The attempted sexual assault was later interrupted by a passer-by, and the suspect fled.

The suspect is described as a man, approximately 30 to 35 years old, weighing 155 lbs, 5' 7" tall, with a tattoo of a feather on his right cheek.

Meanwhile, parents in the area are looking after their little ones.

"It's scary," said Richard Gonzales. "We have to walk them to school."

"I got scared," said Yazmine Lopez, whose daughter goes to the same school as the victim. "I was like, oh my god, no. I panicked. I texted my daughter as soon as that happened. I told her as soon as you get off of class, message me because you're not going to come home alone."
