AS boost is coming to a portion of South Phoenix, after members of the Phoenix City Council approved a plan to develop a piece of land in the area.

Byron Evans's story is definitely inspiring. He played high school football at Phoenix's South Mountain High School, and from there, he went on to play for the University of Arizona, and was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, he is looking forward to his old team playing in this year's Super Bowl.

Police say Andrew Salazar, 58, was struck and killed by a car near 28th Street and Broadway Road at around 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 18.

Detectives in Phoenix were inspecting salvage yards near 43rd Avenue and Broadway on Jan. 17 in an effort to stop chop shop operations.

A suspect with scissors who police say lunged at them died following an officer-involved shooting on Jan. 3 in south Phoenix.

On Oct. 24, police say a man was caught stealing artificial turf from a home near 23rd Avenue and Southern. The confrontation ended with the homeowner getting seriously hurt.

“Preliminary information indicates there may have been an argument before the shooting,” Sgt. Melissa Soliz said.

A fight in south Phoenix left a woman and man dead, police said. The two have been identified.

First responders were called to an intersection near 7th Street and Dobbins Road for a two-car crash involving four adults and a teenager.

Firefighters were called to an apartment near Central and Baseline early Saturday morning and discovered “thick smoke” coming from the entrance to the building.

"The witness attempted to notify the driver of the dog being dragged two times and each time the defendant [Popoca] sped off," read a portion of the court documents.

Officers were driving near Interstate 17 and Van Buren just after 2 a.m. when they came across a car that had been reported stolen out of Chandler.

Officers were called to an area near 3rd Avenue and Southern at around 9:30 p.m. that night and found an adult man lying injured on the ground.

Phoenix fire crews and other local agencies worked to secure an ammonia leak coming from an ice manufacturing facility.

Police say they visited a home near 16th Street and Broadway Road on a shooting call at around 9:30 p.m. and found 34-year-old Edna Aragon-Baca lying on the ground.

Officers found the man lying in the road, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He died at the hospital from his injuries. His name was not released.

Phoenix officers responded to an area near 48th Street and Broadway after neighbors reported hearing gunshots.

Officers responded to reports of a welfare check near Central Avenue and Roeser Road and found a woman injured. The 18-year-old died from her injuries, Phoenix Police Sgt. Vincent Cole said.
